You have to go into the settings on the gmail site and tell gmail to put emails in the trash when they are accessed with pop. It's under the forwarding and pop imap setting link.

I have tried email on the apex the problem is that I use g mail and it does not remove the email from the server so I went back to using the computer. I have it set to remove from the gmail server but it does 
not do that.
