Hi everyone,
I have been a member of NLS since I was 7, and only had a problem with a librarian choosing materials for me....once, while in law school in Washington, d. c.
They gave up very quickly as they could not match my expansive tastes.

Judy I would have been tempted to remind the librarian that reading is a form of expression, protected by the first amendment, but I realize there are unique cases everywhere. I still remember a librarian here in New York city telling me that blind people do not use computers.
I dare say he has long since been dismissed.
I should add that I have never been told when a book should come back, but try to be respectful. I am, for example, inhaling the final Harry Potter this weekend, not only because I have been waiting, but because I know others are too. I am not a big fan of computer reading, so do not know if I will ever bother with the digital service. relaxing on the sofa with a book is more my style, and I can even do this with my scanner, grin.

I cannot speak highly enough of the program. Personally it not only contributed to my not having a southern accent even though born in Arkansas, and the ability to visit any part of the world and universe I wished motivated me to e a human first and ignore other efforts to sub-divide the family of man.
Just sharing,
Karen

   Hi Judy et all
I have been very lucky with the NLS libraries I have used. One librarian felt
the number of cassette books I was allowed to have out at one time was too
big. I didn't let her change the number.
I keep a huge request list.
I am also set up so I can order books myself using my computer. Some
libraries also allow you to check your patron record. You can see how many
books you have out, how many are on your reserve list and in some states you
can also see when a book is due back.
I think the only time anyone paid attention to my reading level was when I was
a kid. Looking back I think people, usually my parents were paying attention
to age appropriateness. That is how it should be.
