Yes, More did mean similar as in books that survey world history and civilization. I do know what you mean by reading different historians; I have far, far too many differently-executed American history books to count, and they're all interesting.

I suggest you read a variety of historical writers choosing ones
who
are good at research and good at writing in an engaging way.
You can get ideas from the bibliographies writers recommend. Different people will write about the same period in extremelydifferent ways. Reading a variety of historians allows you to
learn
to think about history for yourself and to form your own ideas.
