Jana,

Can you tell me more about "freedom box". What is their web site?

Thanks,

Ted

Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Things to do while scanning

Hi, everyone! First of all, I want to wish you all a very happy and blessed
2005! I look forward to seeing what this year holds for Bookshare as well.
I've found several things that help to make scanning less boring. <Smile>
First of all, as Mike and shelley have stated, it's sometimes fun to read
the book while I'm scanning it. If I feel like watching a movie, I often
log on to Freedom Box, which, by the way, is an excellent on-line network
for blind people. They have just launched Freedom Box System Access, a
low-cost alternative to current screen readers. Anyway, Freedom box
includes a ton of sound-tracks for audio-described movies, so I often watch
one while I'm scanning. If I know that I'm going to be on the phone for a
while, I will sometimes scan a book while I'm chatting with a friend,
especially when I'm to the point where I'm ready to use the Scan Repeatedly
feature in K1000 which, by the way, is a God-send! If I don't feel like
reading a book, watching a movie, or chatting, sometimes I find it nice to
just sit and think while I'm scanning... but that's very rare! <Smile>

Having said all that, Rose, I think a long book is quite a daunting task,
and I have to be feeling especially brave to undertake it! <Smile> Happy
New Year, everyone!

Jana
