Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Kurzweil saves the day!

Hi all,

I know that this will come as a shock to some of you, but I have just discovered Kurzweil 1000. I have been limping along with its competitor for years, and finally, I got a demo! I started using it, and I'm not going back, not ever! I looked in my coffers, and there was enough money to purchase the software! So, that's what I did!

Here's a little trick I discovered. Folks, if you don't like the voice on the Stream, and you're wanting to read txt files or DAISY files from Bookshare, run 'em through Kurzweil's speak to MP3 feature with it's wonderful, smooth, easy-listening voice! Works like a charm! I chose to have Kurzweil make mp3's of fifty-page units, which works out to be about as much as comes on a side of a cassette. The Kurzweil software labels the files properly, and all you do is plunk them in a folder under $vrother Books, and boom! You've got a voice that's ten, nay an hundred times better than Samantha or Tom, and you're good to go!

I just figured other people might want to know this fact. If you have Kurzweil, and even if you don't, you can get something called Text Aloud and purchase one of their voices for a modest fee. Convert your files with that, and you're good to go on the Stream! Oh, I'm a happy camper, a really, really happy camper!

Ann P.
