I've never cleaned mine, but, like Jamie, I no longer scan a lot of whole books. But I always keep the cover down when I'm not actually scanning. I've noticed that tere's a lot of dust on the cover--ooops, what does that say about my housekeeping--but my scans turn out well. Usually the only thing I have to do when validating before sending pages or sections to someone is to eliminate the hyphens that don't belong.
