Hi all,

Miriam, I think if you go to the web site I cited in the below msg, you will get a lot of your questions answered. I'm sure that Bob Acosta would be happy to answer your questions.

Ann,

Thanks for the explanation. I do understandthat Helping Hands is a
not-for-profit organization. I'd still be interested to know where the
funding comes from because not-for-profit organizations have to get funds
from somewhere and I'm also interested in what services it provides and to
whom. My curiosity isn't an accusation. It's just curiosity since I've seen
the name and wonder about its history and current status. I assume also that
it costs money to host all the various book discussion groups and other
programs that are on Accessible World. The equipment must cost some money.
Isn't there some paid staff? The fact that people are paid isn't a negative.
People ought to be paid for their work. I just like things to be
transparent.

Hi all,

Miriam, let me correct any misapprehension on your part as to what's what in
this discussion.

One, the facilitators for the book discussions do not get paid at all.
They are, as I can attest being one, volunteers. We facilitate our
discussions because we want to do so and because we love what we do.

Two, Bob Acosta runs Helping Hands For The Blind, an organization which is a
nonprofit.

http://www.helpinghands4theblind.org/

He has been its founder and president since 1990.

Bob Acosta also runs Accessible World. this is a TC Conference server where
the book discussions can be found. I believe that this part of his
activities was started by Pat Price, and he has continued her work since her
untimely death.

I just figured that you ought to know the correct information about Bob
Acosta and his organizations. Hope that this clarifies.
