I think I read somewhere, maybe on this list, that the standard Book Port
non-warranty repair fee is $65. All in all, pretty reasonable. Have you
tried other CF cards or gone through any reformatting procedures? A faulty
card can result in malfunctions or even crashes. When I became aware of how
important the status of a card can be, I decided to buy a cheap 32-meg card
for something like $8.95 just to keep on hand for comparative purposes, in
case I have reason to question the performance of the cards I actually use
on a regular basis. Don't know really what gave me the idea to do that, but
I've had reason to be glad I did.

Subject: [bookport] old bookport, repair it or replace it?
My bookport is getting up there, and it is definitely having problems. It locks up and emmits strange beeps and gibberish through the headphones, but usually responds to a reset. I think I bought it in the summer of its first year of production (whenever that was). The battery contacts aren't loose and the circuit boards don't appear cracked. I'm wondering if I'm heading for a repair or is replacement a better option? I'd also like to know when they first came out; still trying to figure out if I got decent value for money on this deal. Unfortunately I'd probably not want to live without it now!
