[bookport] No response fom Book Port

I listened to the Book Port for several hours last night, but when I tried 
to use it this morning, there was no response whatsoever. 

I  took out and put back in the batteries to no avail, and then replaced 
the batteries with fresh alkalines, which also didn't help. 

Someone on this list suggested that leaving the batteries out for several 
hours might help, so that is what I am doing now.

My Book Port failed earlier this year while installing beta software, and I 
dread the complications, costs and waiting involved if I have to send it 
back to APH for repairs the second time in six months.
