[bookport] BP not connected

And yes, this time I've read the manual and tried *everything* it has suggested.
So what can I try next?
It doesn't seem to any longer like my 4gb cards - I've been using them all day
and its only after I've changed the batteries that all this began ... And yes,
I have tried different batteries!
Oh, it took about 10 hours to transfer 3.2gb of text, audio books and music
last night!
I have also tried several 4gb cards and formatted them all.
I have also tried several 2gb cards and formatted them all.
Tried a re-boot; a different cable; different USB port; unplugging all other
USB devices; Windows XP Pro recognises it has been plugged in but says there is
an error and its an unrecognised device. NB All my other USB devices, and I
have many, work.
Having tried **all** the things suggested in the manual, I'm at a loss!
Suggestions please ... or have I a pooped BP?
I love the device and when it works well, it works very well .. but the salient
word is "when"!
