No, the pointy end--or the one that protrudes--is the positive end, =
positively!  <Grin>
I remember it by thinking of a plus sign which has sort of a point, =
while a minus sign is a flat line.

Some of you may be familiar with mashed battery contacts in the Book
Port. In short, this is a condition where the battery contacts become
flat, and barely touch the tips of the batteries.

We have discovered that it is best to always insert the negative tip of
the battery first. Doing so may increase the life of your battery
contacts.
