_War Horse_
by Michael Morpurgo
narrated by John Keating

Albert named the red bay foal his father had just bought Joey, and
intended to raise the horse to work on the farm as well as to ride as a
hunter, once he was old enough. Joey loved his Albert, whom he
considered his true Master. But when Albert's father sold the young
horse to the army when Joey was two years old, it seemed that Joey and
Albert would never be reunited.

A lovely story from Joey's point of view as he recounts his adventures
from the moment he was separated from his mother to the moment he found
himself returning a war hero to the farm in Devonshire in Britain, and
the inspiration for the movie of the same title.

And John Keating does a superb job at narrating this short book. A
wonderful recreation of the time during World War One when horses were
still active members of armies throughout much of the world.
