Lost
By Michael Robotham.

The book is on BARD and bookshare.

This is the second book in the Joseph O'Loughlin series.

Detective Inspector Vincent Ruiz has been shot in the leg and is near death
when fished out of the Thames. There is a picture of a child, Mickey
Carlyle, in his pocket. And there is a boat floating free in the river with
blood in it.

Though the police don't believe Ruiz has amnesia, He has no memory
whatsoever of how he ended up in the river or why he would have a picture of
the child in his pocket. He does remember the child's kidnapping and
disappearance, a three year old case, and his closing of that case with the
murderer tried and imprisoned.

He asks psychologist Joe O'Loughlin to help him regain his lost memory.
Could he really be responsible for putting the wrong man in prison? Why else
would he involve himself with a closed case?

Bit by bit the memory returns. O'Loughlin's techniques are certainly
interesting. Since direct methods don't work, going at things sideways does
slowly put the picture together. It may not be fast enough, because others
don't want the case reopened. A young woman officer also helps Ruiz as does
several other people.

Lots of threads in this one. A terrific story.

Good reading,

Rosemarie
