Joel,
It is always more complicated than it appears. Each of us and our values are
shaped rightly or wrongly by a set of life experiences and teachings that are
not fully chosen. For this reason, a small part of me can forgive almost any
human misstep and folks have generally extended the same courtesy when I step
in it.
I would hope that the person responsible for this affront will hear or read
enough of this blowback to recognize that his/her choice of actions was both
un-welcomed and inappropriate given the event.
When in an arena filled with the varied folks who attend CBC’s, which are by
design promoting inclusivity and engagement, it is wholly inappropriate to
promote personal religious or political beliefs.
