Problem is really that different phones suit use by different people
better/worse - for example, since I have relatively large hands, touch screen
would generally be something I'd prefer to avoid, so it might be best to get
your own hands on an example phone literally, for example, or else try get hold
of someone who's made use of a specific model themselves - maybe it would be
best to ask these questions on the mailing lists, where you're more likely to
find/get hold of other guys with these specific phones?
(I will copy my BlindZA mailing list in on this reply)

Vodacom has launched two new speaking phones for the visually impaired

Vodacom today announced the availability of two new speaking phones, the
Nokia N97 Mini and Nokia C5 smartphones, providing more choice to visually
impaired users.

These smartphones have been upgraded with the Talks software, which Vodacom
said enables text-to-speech functionality to make mobile communication more
accessible to visually impaired users.

According to Vodacom, the Nokia N97 Mini speaking phone is a high-end
business phone with a touch screen that works with the Talks (text-to-speech)
software. It also sports Ovi Maps and comes with integrated assisted-GPS and
compass along with voice navigation.

The Nokia C5 has many features such Bluetooth, Internet and e-mail, camera,
radio and GPS, which Vodacom said makes richer mobile communication accessible
to the visually impaired user.

"Vodacom's key driver is to spread benefits of connectivity to all groups
especially to those with specific needs. With the almost limitless array of
applications, smartphones can benefit users who are visually impaired." says
Romeo Kumalo, executive commercial director at Vodacom South Africa.

"It gives us great joy to be able to provide people with specific needs
accessibility to mobile communications. People who are visually impaired are
empowered to communicate independently using the latest mobile technology," he
said.

The handsets are now available nationwide from Vodashops, Vodacom4U stores
and Vodacom Direct..za News, All rights reserved.
