Rabecca:
When I was growing up, my Mom had an old wheat grinder machine in one
corner of the kitchen. It looked like an old piece of furniture and was housed
in a wooden casing. The wheat went into a sort of tray in the top, and the
whole wheat flour came out in a drawer in the bottom. Every fall, when the
weather got cool enough, she'd grind up large quantities of wheat, get out the
Bosch, and make lots and lots of wheat bread. The wheat grinder finally quit
working after some 35 years of use, and somehow, the electric grain mill never
quite saw the degree of action the old machine had.
Perhaps it had a lot to do with the timing of when my Dad's health began to
decline rapidly in about 2005 or so, plus, all her kids were pretty much grown
up by then. I well remember how exciting it was to get up on the countertop
with my Mom as she made bread and helping her keep track of just how many cups
of flour went into each batch. The reward of warm, fresh bread, slathered in
soft butter and drizzled with a little honey, was excuisit to say the least.
When I finally got my own Bosch and grain mill, I took up a different recipe
than the one my Mom used to make, and even she has admitted it is better than
her bread was. Now, she just buys the bread from me when I make it. So, I
bring all this up to say that I learned to love making bread from my Mom. I
had to learn the feel of the dough and other things through some degree of my
own experience, but it didn't take me long to learn. I will send you the
potato roll recipe before the end of the day if I can. Do you happen to have
potato flakes or potato flour in your pantry? If not, you'll need to cook a
potato by simmering it, and keep both the potato and the water it was cooked in
to make these rolls.

John,
It is fabulous and commendable for all the cooking you do. I am curious
where did you learn all of your bread baking and cooking skills. Would it
be possible to have the potato roll recipe? There is a standard stand mixer
in the kitchen. I think it is a kitchen aid and has a bread attachment.
