John 6:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have
peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome
the world."

A plane crashed in Taiwan today. It is way to early to know with any degree
of certainty what caused the crash. The one thing that is certain is people
have been seriously injured and others have died themselves or lost loved
ones.

I was recently asked what someone can say to another who has suffered the
loss of someone close to them. I was pretty much speechless. There is a lot
of truth in the idea that just being there is at least as important as any
words that can be said. Making sure they know you're available to that
person, and being available when they need to walk, or talk, or cry or
scream and rant. What do you say? Even when they start talking there is a
lot of listening to do through their pain and grief.

What do we do? First, we pray. The most powerful tool in the hands of a
Christian is prayer for these hurting people. What are your gifts? Are you
good with kids? Can you watch theirs while they deal with funeral
arrangements, etc.? Do you cook? Prepare a meal and drop it off. Ask for
groceries they might need. Helping to cover the daily bits of life that need
to be done can be a good place to start. Ask them how you can help.

Let them know they are loved. Jeremiah was told by the Lord - "I have loved
you with an everlasting love; ." In John 14:3 we are told that Jesus
prepared a place in Heaven for those who have placed their faith in Him. If
you want to know more about this, please contact one of us or find a local
church. They often have people on staff that can help.

There's so much more to this topic than can be covered here. For some this
may be a starting point to go further into a lay ministry like Stephen
Ministries or a visiting ministry at your church. Christ created us, and
loves us. If we can learn to share that caring we can be used to make a
difference in people's lives and eternities.

Grace Peace,

Mike
