Quest for Truth 15 Job 1:6-12 The Challenge.

Sometimes we're doing great. No reason to think anything can go wrong. Wouldn't it be an amazing thing to know we've gotten the notice of God? The problem
is that we may also have the notice of Satan as well. If yoju've been showcased as a sharp weapon in the arsenal of God, there may be some things happening
behind the scenes that could put your sharpness, and usefulness to the test.

These notes are from a very literal paraphrase of the Hebrew text. All discrepancies are my own. Please point them out, or ask questions and leave comments
to enlighten me on my errors. Notes are also taken from the Geneva Study Bible, which is in the public domain.

Job 1: 6-12

JOB 1:6
And was, the day, and coming, sons of, the elohyim, to the place, unto – Yahweh,

Note: called the sons of God because they are willing to execute his will.

And coming, also - the satan, in their midst.

Note: Satan is an adversary to God, yet he is compelled to obey him, and do him all homage, without whose permission and appointment he can do nothing.

JOB 1:7
And said, yahweh, to - satan,

Where (are), you coming, and noticing,

Note: This question is asked for our infirmity: for God knew where he had come from.

The satan to - yahweh, and said,

From traveling, in earth, and from walking, in it.

Note: In this is described the nature of Satan, which is always seeking his prey,
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (ESV)

JOB 1:8
And said, yahweh, to - the satan,

(have) you considered, heart, my - servant, job,

For, none, is like him, in earth, a man, pious,

And straight, fearing, elohyim, and turns from, what evil doing.

JOB 1:9
And responded, the satan, to - yahweh, and said,

(where's)the cost , to fear, job, elohyim.

Note: He fears you not for your own sake, but for the blessing that he received from you.

JOB 1:10
(have) not - you, entwined, around, and around - his house.

Note: Meaning, the grace of God, which served Job as a rampart against all temptations.

All - which - he has, what encircles, actions, his hands, are blessed,

And his property, breaks out, in earth.

JOB 1:11
And truly, sent away now- , your hand,

Note: This signifies that Satan is not able to touch us, but it is God that must do it.

And touch, in all - which - is his, if -not, unto - your face, he'll curse you.

Note: Satan notes the vice to which men are commonly subjected, that is, to hide their rebellion and to be content with God in the time of prosperity which
view is disclosed in the time of their adversity.

Or, it's easy to hide rebellion in prosperity, but when we're squeezed, what's inside comes out. --KH

JOB 1:12
And said, yahweh, to - the satan,

Behold, all - which - is his, in your hand,

Note: God does not give Satan power over man to gratify him, but to declare that he has no power over man, but that which God gives him.

Limited, of him, not - should send, your hand,

And went, the satan, from, face of, yahweh.

Note: That is, went to execute that which God had permitted him to do for else he can never go out of God's presence.

Thanks to Nathan Caldwell for adding in his observations in the show.

When bad things happen for no reason, keep in mind that we don't see the big picture. God's purpose sometimes makes no sense, and we may never find out
in this life what the purpose is. Even if the payoff for remai ning loyal doesn't come in this life, keep trusting in the eternal wisdom of God.

This story isn't over yet, We'll take a short break into other topics, but stay tuned when we return to Job and look at the outcome of Satan's work, and
the beginning of the road to Job's recobery.
