We certainly do live in a complex social system. But we've made an
even bigger mess out of it than that provided by Mother Nature. Now
we're so far down the wrong road that we may never work our way back.
Instead of teaching our children the value of cooperating and sharing,
we set an example of bullying and greed. Instead of selflessness we
lead them by our examples, into selfishness and self serving. Again,
by example we teach them that Might makes Right.
But it's far more messy than that. On the one hand, as clever
creatures that we are, we push ahead developing ways of modifying our
crops, or live stock and now, even our own basic building blocks. Yet
on the other hand, we have such a high opinion of ourselves that we
have built an invisible, almighty, all perfect Boss. A King of Kings.
Teaching our young, once again, that He who holds all the cards can
name the game and make up the rules. So we have built our God in
order to prove that we are the "Special" creatures. Above all others.
And yet, on the other hand, we are such frightened little grubs that
we need to cling to our belief that God is real and that He will
protect us for eternity.
Well, here I am, rambling along. Time to eat dinner.

From my very simplified viewpoint, Man's worst threat to His existence is
Man, Himself. Names change, borders move around, religions rise and fall,
the strong abuse the weak, and it only becomes worse. From the day that
little David put the stone in his sling, we have been fighting among
ourselves. At some point we will need to agree that this need to dominate
is built into our very basic fiber.
Religions have tried to address this Human Flaw by creating all powerful,
all wise Gods. Through these Holy Beings, man could change his basic
nature. But religion itself became a shield for conducting violence. And
Man went about using these mythical Gods to force their dominance on
others.
While some of us understand that violence only begets violence, and that
only nonviolence can open the way to a future for the preservation of
Mankind, we are driven into the ground by the very violence we resist.
Too bad. I rather like my fellow man/woman, and would like to dream of
peaceful exploration of this Universe. But I would never wish our present
violent fellow humans onto the planets.
