So Bonnie, I'm guessing that you have moved from your home in Sequim?
We're still looking for someone who the state will accept, to teach
O&M to older clients. Since Denise no longer teaches, I have been
using Doug Tremble out of Vancouver. But Doug's time is limited. My
limited budget does not allow for much O&M services, so Doug bills
separately, meaning he has to first have approval from the ILOBB
office.
Cathy and I are signing one more contract this June, carrying us
through June of 2018. At that point in time, unless Congress takes
action, the Older Blind Program will be abandoned Federally, and
states wishing to provide such services will need to "find" the money
in their state budgets. Currently Washington puts very little money
into this program. The mandate is to fully fund programs and services
to children. Lou Oma said at the last SRC meeting that this will
involve nearly all of the IL money. Deb Lewis is exploring a number
of fund raising ideas through the Washington Council of the Blind, in
hopes of funding the current level. Perhaps she'll have something to
discuss at the WCB Spring Board meeting next week. But anyway, we're
told that we're funded for one more year at current level.
