Hi Miriam,
No doubt that the desire to feed the monster known as the military
industrial complex plays a major role here.
But how to explain the sad fact that many support the American "war on
terror with all its military horror despite its ineffectiveness? I guess
stupidity is the answer. One thing is for sure. Too damned many Americans
opt for simple solutions and don't bother to take a closer look at what
we're doing, its impact and other things seen as complex. Didn't George W.
Bush prove that if you want to win an election, it's better to be a
simpleton than it is to show that you understand complex issues? Boy are we
as a people ever stupid!
It was Thomas Jefferson who once said that stupid people are easy to rule.

A lot of people have said, and are saying the same thing. Apparently, the
government doesn't want to listen. Do you suppose it is just stupidity or is

Excellent article. IT brought to mind a BARD book I read a few years back.
I"ll paste the pertinent information on the book below my name.
I suspect that the book's author, Malcolm Nance would agree with most or all
of what Van Buren has to say here.
Nance argues that groups like al Qaeda are out to destroy traditional Islam.
He says we should do less militarily and do more economically and
diplomattically in order to be more successful in our opposition to groups
like al Qaeda. I highly recommend this book.
