Of all the things you said, I'll choose one, to which to respond. If you
were a working class black man, you would certainly take pride in Obama's
presidency, regardless of whether or not you were doing better or worse
financially, right now. All of the articles that I read on Monday and
Tuesday about his Presidency in The Nation, The Atlantic, and The New
Yorker, verified one feeling that I've had since he began campaigning in
2008. White people, perhaps especially white Progressives and those even
further left, do not truly comprehend the symbolic importance for black
people, not only here, but all over the world, of a black man having been
President of the United States. Maybe it's the white Right Wing that
understands better than the rest of us, which is why Donald Trump is taking
over the oval office. Most black people, with whom the subject of Obama has
come up, have exprssed very positive feelings about him, to me. They are not
nearly as critical of him as are the black intellectuals that you've heard
on Democracy Now. They either don't know about, or don't care about, his
shortcomings.

Absolutely. You are right Miriam, it is complex. Far greater than any of
us can express in a few email posts. Who we are, who rules our government,
where we came from and where we are headed, should be under constant
discussion from Preschool until Death do us Part.
And yes, beyond doubt, there are huge differences in who takes up the reigns
of government.
But what I am pointing out, in my opinion, is that we, the Masses...the
Working Class Americans, are on the outside of the contests for control. We
certainly can impact what that government does...to a greater or lesser
degree, but we are not considered as part of the American Oligarchy. And it
is the Oligarchy that is manipulating events and conditions which keep it
protected at all costs. I personally think that the United States of
America, portrayed as a nation of the People, by the People and for the
People, a democracy within a Republic, is a myth that was fed to the
Colonists in order to recruit their support...and their bodies, in the fight
between the Landed Gentry and the British Crown.
Of course this dream of an enlightened people is never going to be allowed
by the Oligarchy. They control what the Educators will teach. And an open
examination of the nation's history is not on their list. So we continue
passing Fairy Tales and Mythology along to our children. George Washington
and the chopping of the apple tree, Honest Abe, Old Hickory, the freeing of
the slaves, the taking care of our Indian brothers and sisters by "giving"
them Lands of their own, our spreading of Peace and democracy around the
world, our great benevolent Industrialists. Myths, all Fairy Tales. We
"give" the vote to our woman folk, while we turn around and own what they
may do with their bodies. Do we pass laws preventing Men from having
vasectomies? We "free" our slaves and build laws to prevent them from
sharing our American Dream. And wen they begin to rise up, we build prisons
and private concentration camps to house them when they "break" our laws.
Which causes me to wonder, would Working Class Blacks see much difference
between the Reagan administration and the Obama one? What about share
croppers? Can they see that life is better under George Bush or Jimmy
Carter?
Sure, it's easy for me to give Obama a passing grade, compared to those who
went before him, but that might be due to my having not lost my privilege of
living here, or the theft of my home, or the loss of a job because I have no
Green Card, or being sent back to a country that I never really knew, and
separated from my wife and children. Even though I will surely be slowly
drained of my hard earned possessions, I will most likely die before I am
forced to sleep in an open field.
But the Oligarchy is controlled by Greed. Greed will, like the cancer that
it is, gobble up all in sight until there is nothing more to devour. Greed
will then die. But only after the last Humans have gone.
So, the more I write, the more I see the Oligarchy...the American Corporate
Empire as one face. It is a face that can seem to be many things, but in
the end, we, the Masses, are never going to be accepted into its Posh World.

He's not a normal person. Perhaps they'll accommodate if he has enough
power behind him, but this is not a normal situation. Additionally,
although there are power elites who have tremendous influence, there
are also differences among our Presidents and among the people who are
in each of their administrations. The complexities are hidden when you
talk as if that formula in which the Left believes so fervently, the
formula which says that there's really no difference who wins the

Well Bob, I agree that Donald Trump is not my president, but probably
not with as much fervor as you.
Because I believe that Donald Trump is the candidate of choice by the
Oligarchy, and all those who made the final cut in the Presidential
Race were representing the needs of the Oligarchy, including Bernie
Sanders, then I was bound to be outraged regardless of the winner.
Even Bernie Sanders, who came closest to fighting for the Working
Class, had dirty hands and a few skeletons in his attic closet.
Bernie did throw a good scare into the Establishment, and they had to
resort to dirty tricks to freeze him out.
Trump, despite the railing of the Media and many old line Republican
politicians, is a man the Empire can work with. In part, it is
because regardless of his claims otherwise, Trump is a long time
member in good standing with the Ruling Class.
Just look at the coverage he received during the "Race". There's an
old adage that goes, "There's no such thing as bad publicity". And
Trump proved it beyond a doubt. Some folks voted for him because they
were sick of being trick or treated by the Obama administration, some
voted for him because they really believed all the promises, and some
voted for him because they were drawn to this Bad Boy Mouthy, shoot
from the hip, bigger than life Media Creation.
But to the Oligarchy, it doesn't matter why folks voted for Trump.
With the appointments he is sending forward, it will be open season on
the treasury and the Working Class.
No, Donald Trump isn't my president, either. But he is president of
the USA Corporate Empire, and as such, we will need to suffer under
his time in office.
