First, I was really surprised to read about the Pope's invitation. But he
has been reaching out to people who are unusual for Popes to reach out to
like Naomi Klein. Ssecond, I'm not sure that "socialist" is the right word
for either Sanders or the Pope. Neither believes in the State owning all of
the means of production. They are Humanists, and Social Democrats. Sanders
certainly believes in a social welfare state and in regulated capitalism, I
suppose.

Most interesting. Seems to me that Pope Francis is indeed a socialist, at
least one could conclude that based on many of his public statements.
Come to think of it, I'd argue that, Jesus was also a socialist, assuming
that he exists. He fought for the poor and spoke often against greed. Then
again, he also spoke out against "the tax collectors" and taxes do tend to
be higher with a socialist government.
Wonder if the Clintons will have anything negative to say about Sanders'
upcoming visit to the Vatican?
