I hear you loud and clear. Of course we were raised on stories called
History Class, that told us of a fabulous Once Upon a Time Land. A
Fairy Land in the World of Never Was. I believed that all Germans
were Nazis, with bald heads and monocles...the men, that is. And all
Japanese were little beetle-like fellows with heavy bifocals and buck
teeth. And the Jews were all gentle, frightened people who had to
have us come and rescue them and "give" them back their Promised Land.
I believed that we Americans did not torture our prisoners, nor did we
kill civilians, or line up prisoners and massacre them...like they did
us. And our Captains of Industry were all like Daddy Warbucks,
generous and kind. True, we made fun of those folks who were
"different" than us, but it was all in good clean fun. Besides,
running around saying, "Yassuh" and bugging our eyes and waving our
arms like Step "n Fetchit, was fun. And we meant no harm by it. We
genuinely liked our Colored Folks.
But I digress...as usual. These teary eyed stories of kind acts
toward people victimized by members of the very People who are
oppressing them, are deliberate efforts to ease our National
Conscience. We get all teary eyed over a nurse suckling a starving
baby, but turn deaf ears and blind eyes to the countless little
children blown into bloody fragments by our "Peace Seeking" drones.
If we could somehow admit our past violence, maybe we could avoid
making the same mistakes over and over. But we pretend that we are
kind, gentle seekers of Peace. And as we go about sharing our love,
we are confused by the anger and hatred heaped upon us.

really felt like that kind of inane story can only gain traction because
people are either unaware of, or forget about, what has been done to the
Palestinian people. What has been done is an attempt to completely
annihilate them with biblical justifications and the rationale being that
somehow, if Hitler murdered 6 million Jews than the Palestinians should be
removed from the homes that they'd inhabited for thousands of years so that
European Jews, who'd never lived in Palestine, could have a homeland there.
And when the Palestinians rebelled, fought back, and eventually became
violent, all to no avail because the European powers and the US had decreed
that more than half of their land should be handed to European settlers, the
Palestinians were condemned as being dangerous terrorists. I suppose that I
really can't let It go because I was complicit. I believed in, and went
along with all of the lies. So of all the horrors that people are commiting
throughout the world, this one has special resonance for me.

This is me, writing on a bad day.
I wonder if we should be searching for ways to alert future Life Forms on
this planet, that violent domination only leads to extinction.
Humans have not learned this basic lesson despite recording the results for
thousands of years. But maybe Non Human Life Forms can learn from our
failed attempts to rise above our animal nature. Even as some people around
the globe struggle to find ways of ending violence and cruelty, we are
doomed. We are doomed because the marbles are all held by the Violent Ones.
They have the means to poison the minds of young men and women, to lead
them into behaving in violent ways. Indeed, it is amazing that so much good
has happened in this world gone mad. In my wanderings through Science
Fiction stories, there was always a small number of people who managed to
save themselves from the holocaust that brought an end to the world as we
know it, and begin a new enlightened world. But with our current methods of
destruction, it is doubtful that anyone could survive.
Still, since our choices are to stay the course or to embrace the coming
Failure, I will keep on keeping on.

B'Tselem: Israeli forces abuse Palestinian, force him to say 'Muhammad
is a pig'
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) 13 June - Israeli forces abused and humiliated a
19-year-old Palestinian for hours when he was detained last month
during a march in the village of Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank
district of Ramallah, while the youth reported that he had feared for
his life and was severely degraded by Israeli forces, according to a
report released by Israeli rights group B'Tselem on Monday. Israeli
forces detained Baraa Kanan, from the village of Beit Rima, at the
same march Israeli forces shot and killed 22-year-old Saba Abu Ubeid and
injured at least two others.

was riding in an ambulance with a relative and fellow demonstrator who
had been struck in the head with a stone thrown by another protester
during the march when the ambulance was stopped by at least 10 Israeli
soldiers .
"While they led me along, they swore at me and called my mother names,"
Kanan recalled to B'Tselem. "One of them tightened the blindfold on my
eyes and ordered me to say, 'I'm friends with the soldiers'. I
repeated what he said. Whenever I stopped, he ordered me again to say,
'I'm friends with the soldiers.'" "They knocked me down and then
picked me up. They beat me and swore at me," Kanan continued. "They
didn't let up. I was terrified that they were taking me to some lonely
spot so that they could murder me and no one would find me." Kanan
added that soldiers finally stopped, at which point one said to Kanan
"You're a big-time terrorist. I'm going to shoot you." Kanan said that
he heard the soldier load his gun and felt the gun be placed on his
head. "I was sure he was going to kill me," he said. Kanan said that
the soldiers then beat him again, and "covered his legs with earth and
then removed it." According to B'Tselem, he was also transferred to a
tent and made to sit on the floor. The soldiers' removed his blindfold
and "forced him to say 'Muhammad is pig' and 'Muhammad is a dog', and
snipped off bits of his hair with scissors." After the soldiers
finally returned his identity card and removed his plastic cuffs, they
left Kanan in an area unknown to the youth, after Kanan had told the
soldiers he did not know how to get back to Nabi Saleh..
