To answer all of what you said: The form of capitalism you are describing is
regulated capitalism and we had it from the late 1930's until the early
1970's. The problem with capitalism is that, by its nature, it seeks to
remove regulations because banks and corporations want to maximize profits
for their stockholders. The most extreme form of this is the vulture funds,
(the other, correct name has flown out of my brain, but maybe it will return
before I finish this message. In the case of people like Paul Singer, who
runs one of these things, the idea is to take over a thriving business that
is making a profit, move its operations offshore so that employees will be
paid only subsistence wages, increase the profits, so that the business can
have excess money to buy and sell more and more of its stock at higher and
higher prices ,make a profit on the stock, and destroy the actual business.
I think that's the scenario I read the other day in an article describing a
very specific example of this. We have very little manufacturing here
because the wealthy make money by manipulating money. So very large numbers
of people have lost the opportunity to work in manufacturing which, although
it is hard, unglamorous work, allowed them to earn a living wage so long as
unions existed to represent their interests. The service jobs that have
replaced the manufacturing jobs, are low paying jobs in big box stores,
warehouses, call centers, chain restaurants. And there are all the contract
worker jobs like those for Uber and the like. Pay is low and there's no
union to help most of these people fight for higher pay. There are the home
health aides. I have one now, who is paid by the agency that employs her,
$10 an hour and they employ her four hours a day, seven days a week. Taxes
and social security taxes are withheld from her check. It costs her $2.75
for a one way fare on the bus or she can buy a metro card for 7 days for $30
if she can scrape together $30. The bus ride takes 2 hours. She's trying to
get a better paying job and has interviewed for a job, cleaning the interior
of airplanes at JFK Airport. She will have an 8 hour shift and be paid $12
an hour. The bus ride might be shorter. When people talk about Capitalism,
and work, and poor people, it's always in general terms because the people
who are talking, although Carl would define them as "working class", are in
a very different place than many other working people.
If our laws prohibited large donations for elections, then it wouldn't be
necessary for political parties to have so much money. Our system is set up
according to laws and the laws could be changed. Corporate Democrats are
those who are especially responsive to the wishes of financial institutions
and corporations, like Schumer, Obama, and Hillary Clinton. There is a
progressive wing of the Democratic party whose members, like Elizabeth
Warren, are more aligned with the concerns of average people.

I do not know Mr. Schumer nor have I ever met him. I neither like nor
dislike Mr. Schumer or the Democratic Party. I am sure that there are
Democrats out there that a fine people. I do not know what a corporate
democrat is nor can I define such a person or business.
I do know that in order to accomplish an objective money is required and I
opine that the funds needed cannot be obtained by taxation. I also know
that some portion of our population is unable to functionally work and
provide funds for their upkeep. I seek to find a form of capitalism that
will provide the funds and at the same time provide help for those who are
unable to provide for themselves.
