Hi All,

Beginning this month I am publishing so called Performance Ratings as part of 
the game division standings.  Performance Ratings are not the same as our Elo 
Ratings.

Performance Ratings are calculated for each tournament in order to estimate the 
player's performance for that tournament alone.  I am calculating your 
Performance Rating for our Ladder Tournament as well as friendly games as a 
group and also all games as a group.

Performance Ratings are calculated from the ratings of your opponents and your 
performance against those opponents only.  Your Performance Rating does not 
depend on your Elo Rating at all.  Performance Ratings discourage players from 
continuously playing lower rated players in order to build their ratings.

Performance Ratings can be calculated several ways.  I am using two different 
methods and showing both.  First, I use the "linear expectancy model" developed 
by Jeff Sonas (see the chessmetrics website).  Second, I also use the "400 
Rule" method popular in many chess clubs (see Wikipedia).  There appears to be 
little difference so far.
