Thanks, Carrie, I'll be especially looking for the Zelazny - one of my
favorite authors. I'm eagerly anticipating the complete list when you get
the chance to put it out.

I'm not at the office currently, but I can tell you that most of the new
sci-fi books are from authors who aren't familiar to me. About a dozen of
the books are by well-known authors so I put those first in the queue.

Most of the BSO sci-fi books are by well-known authors. I managed to scan
eight of them yesterday before the whine of the scanner convinced me to stop
scanning. Three of them I validated last night, one because there was some
strange formatting in it, and two because the scanner ripped a page in half
in each book - another reason to perform maintenance on it. When Claire
replaces the books, you'll see Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny, The
Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey, and Magician: Master by Raymond E. Feist on
the new books list. The other 5 BSO sci-fi books I'll submit when I go into
the office. Wish I could remember their titles now. Well, next time I'm in,
I'll post a list of the new and BSO sci-fi books to the group.

Dear Carrie and Clare,

! You could have rolled your eyes and said, "We're up to our eyebrows in
books to scan. We can't take another book right now, but you didn't! Thanks
to both of you

A Bookstore across the street? How can you stand it???

I'm a fan of several genres of books including sf and noticed right away how
much that group needed BSOing. There are lots of accurate files in that
group to read while the BSOs trickle in. Night Train to Rigel, by Timothy
Zahn, which Kelley validated was a fun read. I hope you'll tell the staff at
the Bookstore across the street that the Booksharians from coast to coast
are agog over their donation!

All of that science fiction coming at us. Where's Hermione's time turner
when I need it? I want to jump up and down yelling "I'll do them! I'll do
them!," but I have a clutch of 5 treasures to validate. I have faith in the
volunteers as a whole so this is me jumping up and down yelling, "We'll do
them! We'll do them!"

Always with love,

Lissi

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] sci-fi validators

Hi all,

Last week, the used bookstore across the street called us and said that they
had loads of sci-fi books in their free box. The books are old and smelly
and no one will buy them. Would we like them? You bet! Claire and I
zipped over and grabbed a slew of books, and brought them back to the
office. There are 20 BSO sci-fi books and 47 new sci-fi books for the
collection. I have 38 BSO sci-fi books from my father's collection, so at
this point we now have 58 BSO sci-fi books, 47 new sci-fi books, and 38
classical music books that we're trying to process. Whew! Of course now
the scanner has been making strange noises, so it needs to go in for
maintenance. I'm hoping we can have it in and out of a local shop within a
few days. We'll see how that goes.

I want to submit the BSO sci-fi books before the new sci-fi books, hoping
that the validators will work on them. I'm afraid if I submit the new ones
first, the BSO ones will be ignored. The sci-fi collection is in pretty bad
shape, mainly because the first library of books to start the collection was
mostly sci-fi. Way back when, people were anxious to start the collection,
so they scanned the books and plopped them into the collection without any
validation. I think about half of the fair books are sci-fi now. I'm
trying to upgrade the sci-fi so we have excellent scans of most books. I
managed to sneak a few BSO sci-fi books through the scanner this morning
before the noise got really loud. I'll try to submit them later this week.
Please validate them. After the rest of the BSO ones are submitted, we'll
start on the new ones. Of course the classical music ones will be sprinkled
in there too.

And that's the status from the office, Carrie
