Hi Jill, All of your reasoning sounds accurate to me. You can check on the two-page thing by looking at the number of pages that bookshare has listed for the book, then comparing it to the last numbered page in the book, regardless of the line of dots indicating a page break. I think you're right, the scanner very likely had two-page scanning enabled and didn't tell their software to recognize two pages per scan. And then the validator didn't check thoroughly the page count. The stripper is supposed to get rid of headers, but they all have to be exactly uniform for it to do that, that includes the amount of white space in the header. I have found that the amount of white space can vary, and that headers very often do not scan identically, thus foiling the stripper. The amount of white space in the end copy of the book will look uniform because the stripper gets rid of all extra tabs and spaces. It's very likely that the headers didn't look like that to begin with, before Bookshare's tools got to the book. I'm guessing that the problem lies with an incomplete page count check by the validator. The best way to know how many pages a book ought to have is to check it on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, or fantastic fiction using the ISBN number in the book. I really don't think many people bother to do this. I do think that you're right that if the validator had inserted a page break above each of the headers, or to make sure that one was there, all of your pages would have been marked in braille. Because the stripper is as exacting as it is about headers, I ALWAYS remove them, leaving page numbers in the book. However, numbers for each page are shown. Does this mean that the scanner had one page selected in his options but was actually scanning two pages at a time. If so, when the validator saw the heading and the next page number, if a page break was inserted at that point, would this have solved the problem? Also, it was my impression that the stripper removed headings, but in this book at least as far as I have read, all headings are preserved along with the page numbers. In case anyone wants to look at the braille version of the book, it is Smuggler's Moon by Bruce Alexander. I am anxious to understand what happened here.
