Hi Jill,

Log into Bookshare

Click on the link that says "my account"
on that page there should be something like "my preferences"

Under there you can choose how your braille files are delivered to you.

Among other things.

Hi Judy,

I guess Shelley answered this one. If you use the correct choice for your
.brf file the print page break is denoted by a long line of underline
characters followed by the page number. the page number also has a number
sign leading the digits of the page number.

You should be able to use the line of underline characters as your page
marker. It is at least 30 characters long I believe.

Have fun.

It is preserved if you get the Braille files with the _____________ page
number included. Is under your account in preferences.

Dan, thanks!

Are there page numbers at all? And what are the textual indicators of
page breaks? I'm actually not looking for page break control codes - I
didn't expect any to be in there. But I thought that when Bookshare
converts an rtf to a braille file, the physical text, including the page
numbers, is preserved (without control codes for page breaks). Or am I
totally wrong on that?

Judy,

.brf files only have text. This text includes textual indicators of page breaks and the like but no actual page break control codes. You can not
get those from a .brf file.

I hate being the bearer of bad news.

I've been doing some experimenting with translating both DAISY
and .brf files back into .rtf files, as my setup for reading
books works much better with the .rtf files.

I use nfbtrans to back-translate the braille files into text.
When I do that, I lose all the original pagination and page
numbering.

Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong with nfbtrans so that I
lose that information? And tell me what I can do to fix it? I'm
not that familiar with using the options in nfbtrans, so take
pity on me, and if you can explain it in something other than
hexadecimal settings I'll be most grateful! grin

On the positive side, after some experimenting I now have a word
macro that takes the .txt file I create from saving a DAISY .xml
file as text, and creates a .rtf file that has all the original
page breaks and page numbering that were in the .xml file. smile.
