Hi Tom,

If all of the page numbers are accurate in the book, and you're certain
about that, you could change the table of contents' page number. Sometimes
a 9 scans as an 8 and that could be what happened. A check of
books.google.com or Amazon might give you a view of the table of contents to
see whether the 348 is a scanning error in the book.

The indices are not core content, so if you're really stuck, you don't have
to proofread them. However, inserting line breaks between entries shouldn't
change page numbering at all.

If you are proofreading using Microsoft Word, you might get soft page breaks
inserted, but you can ignore those as they won't remain in the file, or get
translated to Bookshare's content, as they are only their to let you know
where a new page would be sent to the printer, but never will be. If you
don't want to see soft page breaks, you can increase the page size in the
page setup menu in the file menu.

Hope some of that helps.

Please ask more questions if you need more help, or if I've been unclear.

Mayrie

I'm sorry I'm doing it this way, but I can't remember my loggin to this
discussion group, and I find it hard to use anyway. I've been proofing the
"I Love a Mystery Companion" and one of its sections is listed on page 348
of the Table of Contents, but is really on 349. In fact that's even what
the page number shows. Do I change the contents, just let it go or what.
Secondly, there's one Index shown in the Contents, but it looks like there
are two, and on neither one is there an Index title shown. Also, in the
second index which starts on page 383, there appear to be no line breaks
between entries. If I insert them, it will throw the paganation off. So
what do I do with it. I hate to abandon this book because I've Only got 10
pages left, and it's taken me months to get this far. I did send some
e-mails to the scanner a week ago but haven't heard back from him.
