Thank you to E. and Evan for your replies. I have not yet finished in this endeavor, but did proceed with some of it and will continue with it before submitting. I don't know if I will do it for each book I submit, but to better myself and if it eases the process and helps to ensure a really good quality volunteer scanned book is in the collection, why then I'm all for it. And who knows I just may learn something! Indeed, I did make a backup copy of my book, and set about to do the changes doing the find and replace. I had already put the blank lines above and below each page number on each page as I was scanning and doing the book. So there were zero replacements made on all of those. But that long hyphen find all and replace all replacement was a really good thing to learn. I have long found that those are an annoyance. In my k-1000 the voice always runs together the words separated by only a long hyphen and no space. I had been doing a find all and replace all in k-1000 but I think having this code in word to do it is much cleaner. My next question for you is this business about the font size changing. If I understand the bookshare manual, it is saying to do this in k-1000, correct? I have noticed from time to time that my book scans, when I check them, do seem to have different font sizes. Say when there is a missing page number in the scan and I type it in, or there is a scanning error that I correct and I type it in. The typing text default font is probbably different style and size and I guess this is why. So, these universal changes will fix all of that, plus make the headings correct, yes? Any comments or suggestions, let me hear them. I will proceed to follow the instructions in the volunteer manual for now. And if one of you wants to proof this book, let me know, and I'll do that business of putting the text "hold for (your name here)" in the file name upon submission. Thanks. As far as I know, the changes will be retained. And, if there are smart quotes in the book, changing them to regular quotes is important because those smart quotes are not handled properly by the braille translator. I have just finished my scan of "Mayor of MacDougal Street: A Memoir" by Dave Van Ronk with Elijah Wald. It was a beautiful scan, and the ranked spelling is all done, and even yes, the index. I was thinking of trying for my first time to follow the Tips in the manual where you do the replacements etc Where you open the file in Word and do the search and replace all of the various things like smart quotes and such that I hear some of you have been talking about. Before I do it, though, I wanted to make sure it is desired. Or if really when I send up and upload it, and submit the RTF file of the book. Will those cnanges be retained? I guess before I spend the time to do the extra mile, I want to be sure that I am not doing it for no reason. Thanks.
