[bksvol-discuss] exchanging chapters or pages of books between us

I wrote to Madeleine and she sent me a link to the part in the Volunteer
manual that deals with the subject
https://wiki.benetech.org/display/BSO/2.+Topics+for+Submitters+and+Proofreaders#2.TopicsforSubmittersandProofreaders-2sharingfileswhendoingvolunteerworkforbookshare
.

If I understand this correctly(and I wrote to her to ask if I am) a
volunteer could send to another volunteer a chapter or several pages of a
file that he/she/needs help proofing. In other words, if you're having
trouble deciphering words in a file or there are foreign words that need
accents you can send send me the pages, I can fix them for you and send
them back to you; much easier than your having to ask me by listing the
sentences and page number in an email and my replying in the same email.
My memory was that we could exchange a chapter or several pages, but I
wasn't sure and wasn't sure how many pages.
Also (I admit I had a selfish motive in asking about the subject. if
anyone wants to help me with the Hitler book I'm proofing, or with
Shelley's Dog book that I offered to proof: *Dogs: The Ultimate Dictionary*
I could send you a chapter or pages to proof and return to me. The Hitler
book is591 pages of main text (I don't plan to proof the glossary, list of
works cited or index; Ive already finished the chapters on birth, childhood
and misspent youth; the next chapters: his life post WWI and his
development leading to his becoming führer should be much more interesting.
There are footnote numbers and words that need the proper accents,
though, so it would be a challenge for someone who wants a challenge and
you'd need the print book. I should probably continue this myself
I forget how many pages Shelley said the The Dog book has but according to
Amazon it's 752 pages; Shelley scanned the 2008 edition; I'm only able to
get the 2002 edition from my library but she said the text seems to be the
same.
She also said a new volunteer has volunteered to do it, so if he/she takes
it I won't. (I told her to submit it without a hold for me.

But apart from the help I wanted (and I did ask Robin to ask the
publishers if they'd donate those books, it's good to remember that we can
send each other a few pages or a chapter to get help with. I'm happy to do
anything for anyone except scan pages, but fixing pages or a chapter that
someone has sent me as an attachment is a lot easier than listing the lines
in areturn email. smile.
