  Hi Roger,

The BTC books are not practice books, just easier proofreads than scans that
haven't been tweeked a bit. Some common issues have been fixed in them, namely
the conversion of smart quotes to regular quotes among other things.

Btc is an abbreviation for batch. As I understood it, it is pointless for the
experienced proofreader to proof the Btc books. As I understood it those books
are only for practice by the beginning volunteer before starting actual
volunteer work and do not actually enter the collection. If someone knows for
sure and I am incorrect then please correct me.

    Hi Cindy,

BTC in front of a title on the check out a book page means that it has had
some formatting of the file done by Bookshare before being submitted. The
original intent was that those files would be easier for new volunteers to work
on than completely raw scans. I think, though, that if you want to proofread
one of those books, and it's still sitting there, you are free to do so. Since
no inexperienced volunteer has grabbed the book, and those books were submitted
quite a long time ago, you may as well proofread the book if you want to.
