Learning to use computers is a bit easier when you have someone to help. I
will say that my learning curve did steepen when I finally got to the point
that I knew how to join email lists. In fact, this very list has taught me a
good deal about how to use my computer that has applications for me other
than Bookshare.

                                                                  "If you
tremble with indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine."

Hi, Roger, your message made me laugh because I can identify with your
experience. Learning would be a whole lot more fun if one had someone to speak
with
about the particular situation one is in. Then, of course, you have to
wonder if the person understands you or if you can understand him/her. I
personally
could do without the yelling, screaming, crying, and the general desire to
throw or hit something. Then there is the assumption that something should
be
obvious when in fact the thing isn't obvious to me.  I think there is the
assumption we learn things by osmosis. How one perceives and understands
concepts
differs from one person to another. What may work for you may not work with
me and vice versa. God knows everyone has the capacity to think or reason
(some
more or less than others),but how one learns or if one learns will differ
from one person to another. Some people can grasp things by drawing pictures
in their minds; some can hear things and click on some concept which will
crystallize the bit of knowledge for them and they have it. Do you like to
separate
items into various categories or bring everything together into a whole,
i.e., do you use deductive or inductive reasoning? How do you analyze stuff?
 Enough
of this. I hope for both our sakes we can get help we need when we need it
rather than wandering around endlessly without a means of finding where we
need
to go. Good luck and best regards, Kim. PS.: I apologize for any
incoherence on my part. It's bound to happen when one is trying to figure out
how one
knows what one knows. I'd better quit while I'm ahead. K..

Kim, I am a fellow techno-ignoramus. When I first got a computer I was
really lucky that I even knew how to plug it in and I was completely on my own
without
anyone to even offer suggestions. I have come a long way though. I also
have a long way to go too. My experiences with learning how to use a computer
have
convinced me of two things. The first one is that I am capable of learning
anything about computers. The second is that every learning experience is an
arduous adventure in frustration, exhaustion and agony. It is that second
point that slows me down a lot. I tend to put off learning something because
I know that it will be torture to do  so.

Just a thought here, but there are days in which it had been better if I
had stayed in bed. The day starts fine and proceeds downhill at a precipitous
rate
like an avalanche. Take the time when I had to uninstall my anti-virus
software. Now that was fun and a half. It was a thoroughly frustrating day. Tech
stuff always has the power and delight of frustrating and making me crazy.
Again, everyone has had rotten days when one is feeling thoroughly disgusted
about something or other, whether you brought it on yourself or
circumstances came up and hit you. I hope things will turn for the better. They
do tend
to do that so you can look forward to it. Regards, Kim aka Ellinder.

Hi Everyone,

Boy do I feel stupid. The note I sent to Sue Mangis should have gone to Pam
Bortz. That's what I get for trying to work on too many books at once! So,
I
need Pam's book, Yes is Forever to be resubmitted. Thanks.
