HI Cindy,

That is correct. I have done it without soap and the keyboard was fine. I
did have one I did that way and still had problems but I think it was well
beyond its general life cycle.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Washing computer keyboards

I can't find where I saved the instructions. My
recollection is that that you put the keyboard upside
down on the top rack of the dishwasherand run the
machine through the cycle. Gerald added that you wrap
the cord around the keyboard and fasten it with rubber
bands so it won't hang down or get caught on anything.
I think Gerald said to use soap but Kellie or whoever
didn't, and I don't think we did. My husband was
extremely skeptical, but since he couldn't use the
keyboard anyway, and I had great faith in Gerald and
Kellie, or whoever, we tried it and it worked.

Stop the wasing machine before the dry cyle. Turn the
keyboard upside down and let dry on paper towels for a
couple or a few days--or one set of instructions I
found online said to dry it at a very low temperature
in the oven for two days, but we did the airdry
method.

I don't know if you could soak it in hot water in the
sink, but I don't see why not. Gerald? What's your
advice?

I just googled, and basically the above is the correct
procedure. Some people added soap, but it wasn't
necessary. One person went to far as to take the caps
off the keys afterward, but that isn't necessar
either.
