Hi Cindy! It is validators like you whom I admire most greatly. Scans like that are, in my opinion, darned near criminal. And folks like you who have the patience and determination to fix them up deserve huge amounts of praise and probably a lot more money than validators make even now that the pay in Bookshare credit was raised. I agree, lazy scanners need to be much more careful. Thank you for being so determined and so kind to this book. I think I'd have rejected it, then rescanned it myself, if I'd had a copy of the book. Sometimes that is just faster.
You are wonderful! And I completely sympathize with the frustration of trying to clean up a sloppy scan. I have abandoned books that I thought I'd like to validate for reasons like the things that you describe.
Thank you again! Validators that are careful rock! And you all are most of the reason that the books that are near perfect in the Bookshare collection are as near to perfect as they are.

OK, folks, I am hoping that people who are guilty of this are reading. Of course, they probably are not. I don't know who scanned this book, but I think it is rated "good." It is the now famous "A New Religious America." People, we gotta hold these books down so they can get up close and personal to the scanner. It was rated "good" I think, and for the first half it seemed better than that. But now I am to the part that has page after page of errors and errors. Luckily I have the book, but I'm having to constantly pit it against the copy I'm validating. I would reject it, but it has been up there for about two years already. I hope that when we are doing other things while scanning that we are mindful of the garbage that gets into these scans if we don't do it right. I am sure I'm preaching to the choir, but I sure feel better now. Cindy Lou Ray Cindy Lou Ray. Each day is a new adventure.
