[bksvol-discuss] Validating a book with a "carrot" or actually the "^" - what's up doc?

I have a book I am trying to validate which has this in huge quantity at the
end of many sentences right after the period with no space between:

^

I am hopeful the Bookshare Volunteer Brain Trust can come in with its
collective experience and knowledge, and rescue me from being saved from the
Elmer Be-Fuddled syndrome on this Monday.

The book is in .RTF format. It is known to have been produced with OpenBook,
and I am editing using Word 2003, if this information is useful.

What's up doc?

Thanks.
Rik
