You mean you participate in a snobbish club? Scifi is used quite often in
the current culture. Locus, Asimov's Analog, and other publications I've
seen use the term.

Science Fiction club, they always look down on people who use Sci-fi.
SF they accept, but not Sci-Fi. Interesting, may be as you say a
matter of preference, but I was roundly scolded when I used the term
during my first year as a member.
As for your assertion that Science Fiction and Fantasy can get lumped
together, that's true. There are indeed some books that cross the
line, and some authors whose books straddle the line. However, these
books that Carrie has just entered here are no brainers. Only one I'm
not sure of is the Card one, though he is most well known for his
Science Fiction, so I took a good guess.
Speaking of books that straddle the line between the two genres, have
you read any Philip Pullman? The Golden Compass is a hard one to
classify because there is medieval science in it yet there are elements
of fantasy in it as well. I'm not sure how to classify it at all.
Didn't know that about Goblet of Fire, or if I did, I forgot it. Well,
I still don't like Sci-Fi, so I guess I'll have to say it's my personal
preference not to use it. <smiling>
