is a variety of Braille tables in it. I've never mucked about with the

Hi Kim. That handy dandy number sign is put there by using Nemeth code since
computer Braille doesn't support two-symbol letters or numbers. (smile)
Braille has had to go through some changes and modifications with computers
involved. There is no longer just a simple Grade I, II, and III anymore.
Nemeth Code has become increasingly important in math and science, and the
international Braille formats are still being developed. Bookshare has had
to decide on a standard that will meet the needs of the widest range of
people, and that means using Nemeth because of the needs of students and
those of us who work in the science field.
Unfortunately, what you're describing seems to be a quirk of the
BrailleNote. The Pac Mate doesn't seem to exhibit this behavior with
Bookshare's cookbooks. The cookbook I'm looking at right now displays
nicely. Is there an update for the Braille tables for your BrailleNote?
Humanware may have one posted on their site.
Of course, you could always download the daisy format and read that on your
BrailleNote. That format shouldn't have the same translation issue.

Hi, Shelley, I think you're correct, and I can see this dot combination
being there if you were reading a math book, but I find it cumbersome in
cookbooks. Also the numbers needn't be in Nemeth code because we have that
handy-dandy number sign. Yeah, I'm picky about how I like my Braille to look
and I'm probably not up on the latest decrees of BANA. Regards, Kim.
