Hi Donna,
I've experienced some of these problems myself and haven't always found a
good solution. One tip though; when you have a book with slick paper you
might want to try turning your brightness settings down. For example, I
normally scan books at from 55-60, but one of my books with slippery paper
has to be scanned at 48!
