Hi Lori,
The scanner isn't turning off-it's going to sleep or going into "stand-by"
mode.
I've used the 3600 and the 3800, but I think the software for the 3900 is
probably pretty similar.
Look in the start menu for the Plustek folder and inside you'll find the
Scanner Utility.
In the versions I've used this dialogue isn't terribly user friendly and you
may need sighted help. I don't know what screen reader you're using, but
I've had pretty good luck with the Jaws cursor.
In this utility, you can set the scanner to go to sleep after a specific
amount of time. I think the longest you can set it or is 45 minutes. Or, you
can tell the scanner never to go to sleep. The scanner can get pretty warm
if you leave it on all the time, so I leave mine at 45 minutes.
To wake up the scanner, all you have to do is tap one of the buttons on the
top of the scanner.

Hi, Folks,
I recently bought an Opticbook 3900, and I really like it.
However, it has one quirk. When I haven't used it for a while (no more than
30 minutes) the scanner disconnects; I hear the descending tone that a USB
Disconnect makes.
I have started simply turning off the scanner and turning it on before using
Openbook.
I just wonder if anyone with that scanner has encountered the same issue and
if there is something in settings to keep the disconnect from occurring.
