Hi John!

Thank you for being such a careful proofreader. The books show people's hard work.

Words like "café" are not a problem for braille. I have a braille display. These accented words have a dot 4 before the e, so I put them in if they are not there. We are supposed to be as true to the hard copy as we can, so, that means, if we know that there is a mistake in the hard copy, we have to leave it as it is in the electronic file. I know you didn't ask about mistakes in the hard copy, but your question reminded me of things like that.

As to your question about words like "love seat" or "loveseat", when I am not sure if a word just got stuck together by the OCR or should have a hyphen or be written as two words, I check a dictionary. There are several online dictionaries. When there is a hyphenated word at the end of a line, the OCR puts the two parts together, which often works fine, but, when there is supposed to be a hyphenated word to make a compound word, the two parts get mashed up together without the hyphen, which makes them incorrect. Put the hyphen in if you know or find out the OCR software removed it incorrectly. I'm a screen reader user too. I know what you mean about pronunciation being messed up in this case. That is a good way of detecting possible errors.

the word café contains the é.
How is this handled in Braille?
Are we supposed to convert é to plain e?
I find words like love seat written as loveseat (alternate spelling).
I can't tell if the space is left out by the author/editor or the scanner/ocr.
When those two words lack the space, the pronunciation is badly affected.
I find many words that I think should be hyphanated but aren't.
Again I can't tell if the scanner/ocr has done this, and these words also aren't pronounced very well.
What do you experienced people think?
