Hi, Kellie,

One summer between college semesters I worked at the
old Mpls. public library as a page and shelver. It was
fun. My fellow workers were nice and at lunch we
played bridge. It was a wonderful building. Did they
keep the building and modernize the inside or
completely redo it?

Last week I paid a visit to the newly re-constructed
main building of the Santa Monica Public Library.
Wow!! Very spacious, with a cafe and an inner
courtyard. I didn't get beyond the first floor and I
don't know where the books are, but I did get to their
used-book store. The largest one I've ever seen--an
outer foyer where the volunteer sits and there are
shelves and paperbacks on trucks and a spacious inner
room with lots of shelving and books. I thought the
one in our branch was nice and larger than others I've
seen, but the SMPL's is almost as large as some small
library branches.

Thanks for telling us about the books. I've added
Gillian Bradshaw to my list of authors to read, since
I love historical novels and had never heard of her.
Unfortunately, Weir's Six Wives was rejected before I
could validate it, so I borrowed the book and read it.
It is very readable, and I don't have much patience
for wading through books that aren't.

Cindy
