Dear Booksharian Friends,

Too often I’ve failed to write to someone on or off list because I was waiting
for the right words to come to mind or I didn’t want to take the time to nudge
the best words I could think of on to a post. They might not be the write or
best words, but I’m not going to let another time slip by when Whatever words I
have need to be said.

I’m shocked to hear that we won’t be hearing from Kim anymore. The last We
heard from her she believed she was recovering from her pneumonia and infection
and I was sure she’d soon be back at work on Pam’s next scan of a Sister
fedelma mystery book.

Kim was an unfaltering positive presence on both Bookshare lists. She relished
Bookshare both as a reader from its library and as a volunteer proofreader. I
know she read from Bookshare mysteries, historical fiction, science fiction,
romance, fantasy and cookbooks. She was a font of information about them which
was evident in her intelligent discussion of such books in various on line
book clubs. Kim loved to talk to us off list, always excited when she found
that we had reading interests in common. In addition to her reading interests,
she enjoyed role playing games and repeatedly invited people to join in the
fun.

As a volunteer She was one of our needed and appreciated proofreadeing
perfectionists. When she hit a snag, I’d urge her to use her judgment to
resolve it. When possible, in respect for Bookshare’s policy of not tampering
with the text, she chose to work with the scanner to make sure any corrections
she made were in keeping with what exactly appeared in the book. Four of her
most appealing qualities were that she didn’t hesitate to ask questions. She
never lost her delight when a book she proofread was added to the collection,
she would share her approval letter and the book synopsis with the Bookshare
Discuss List and she publicly thanked the scanner by name or anonymously,
according to the scanner’s preference, for their time and talent in providing
her with such fine scans.

I miss you already, Kim and will think of you often and fondly.

Always with love,

Lissi
