Hi, Melissa.
Welcome to the list.

Before we give you any advice, can you please tell us what software you're
proofing with? Screen reader? Microsoft Word? Braillenote, Packmate?
Christina

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] New and a couple questions

Hi all,
My name is Melissa and I'm a new volunteer. I've been a member of Book
Share for
about a year, and decided to start volunteering. I will be getting my
own version
of Kurzweil 1000 tomorrow, so I hope to start doing some scanning. I've
downloaded
my first book for proofreading. The scan quality is excellent, but
there seems to
be a lot of page breaks where there shouldn't be. My understanding is
that we need
to get rid of those that don't belong, right? Also, I wanted to make
sure that I
understand the part about the running headers or footers. These are the
book title
and/or chapter title that appears at the top or bottom of a page,
right? My understanding
is that they should be removed, but page numbers left, right? Are there
any other
little tricks or tips I should know that weren't covered in the manual?
Thanks for
your guidance. I hope to do lots of scanning and proofreading, in my
spare time,
to add to the collection.
Melissa
