Sigh. Unfortunately no it doesn't notice any problem with words stuck together with a period. That used to be different. I guess we get some improvements and some unimprovements. I forgot to test the same thing with quotes. The result of such messes is not so bad when reading with speech, which is why I don't notice the problems when proofreading with speech, but when translated in to braille it can make a big mess. I suppose it helps with web addresses and explains why the feature to add suffixes to the ignore list can be at all effective.

Yep. Did that here, too. Ouch. Btw, what about two words with a period in the middle? Does it catch those on your system?

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Kurzweil ranked spelling bug report

I was just doing a little testing of ranked spelling in Kurzweil version 10. I wanted to see if it would incorrectly count words separated with a long dash or double dashes as a single incorrectly spelled word. I think that may no longer be a problem, but I discovered another more serious problem.

I wrote some test sentences and some of them ended in a misspelled word and
an exclamation mark. when I ran ranked spelling the misspelled word was
found. I selected the correct spelling from the list and hit alt-A for
replace all. I then tabbed to apply and hit enter. The misspellings were
then recalculated. I was surprised to notice that the percentage did not
go up, so I examined the misspellings listed again. I found my corrected
words in the list with a capital I following them instead of the
exclamation mark that had been there. I corrected the word again and then
exited the dialog with okay. the sentences were now okay. I just can't
imagine why this would happen. I retested several times with different
words and got the same result each time. Could others experiment as well
to clarify the extent of the problem?

By the way, I love the message you get if you run ranked spelling and the
document does not have any misspellings.
