Hi all,
Well, I've been on spring break this week, and thought I'd take a few minutes
to update the list on my current projects and to comment on some of the list
traffic over the past few weeks.
It has been a quite crazy semester for myself. Both school and the "real life"
have contributed more than their fair share of things. Classes for the most
part at least are proceeding in a good sense.
I'm taking this spring break opportunity to work on lots of BookShare related
things, like cleaning out my back log of material, books that are in various
stages of completion.
CSUN: After hearing about last year's conference and getting more involved the
last year or so in the assistive technology realm, I considered seeing if it
was possible for me to attend this year. Unfortunately, this week is the one
I've got off, not next, hopefully the breaks will coincide again next year,
like they did last year. And of course, then my friends will want me to go on a
trip next year since we didn't go anywhere this year.......well you get the
idea. *grin*
General BookShare: I still can't find the ability to accurately convey the
amount of promise I think BookShare has and will have for the future. Since I
first joined and became interested with the idea of BookShare (whoops! almost
abbreviated BS there....) I've seen the collection grow by thousands of titles.
I've witnessed the overall general quality of material increase as well as the
amount of that high quality material.
I generally get hooked with some type of hobby or interest for a year or so,
perhaps coming back to it, or having hobbys last even longer. BookShare has
definitely been one of my main focuses over the last few years.
Current BookShare: Yes, we've got so many great ideas, practices, and
potential, but as Janice said, until now we had even less funding to back them.
With the hiring of a new BookShare employee, and the posting of a full time
BookShare position, as well as a "fellowship" job, I think the site and the
service will continue to grow and be even better in 2006 than it ever has been
in the past. Go over to the new Benetech website and have a look at some of the
BookShare related material if you haven't been there recently.
In the short term of course, the administrative queue is a bit full at the
moment, but this is not the first occurance of it, and it will be beaten back
down just as it has been in the past. Keep in mind Gustavo took a well deserved
week away from the BookShare offices, and that the team has been busily
preparing for the CSUN conference many of you are attending.
I'm especially glad that Janice was able to release some demographics about
the BookShare membership. Having half of our subscribers be students is
encouraging in a way. Hopefully with today's technology, students are
appreciating carrying around a notetaker or a laptop that contains their
reading material. And thus, I hope a lot of them stick around because they are
familiar with the service.

25 and 33. If anyone has access to these please let me know before I buy them
on eBay. The site also has 76, 77, 78, 79, and 91. When the set of books I've
submitted are approved, it will total 54 vols.

enough from standard font to not scan well.
#7 and #8 I just received today and started processing #7. I hope to have these
two done by the end of the week, again if I can get those Suspect Profiles.
#9 Martial Law, listed as not being released until March 21, Amazon is already
shipping it and I ordered it today.

Tom Swift and His Flying Lab by Victor Appleton II
I've done about 60 pages of this 200+ page book. This one I need to find again,
because I haven't scanned the rest of it yet.
Pepperments in the Parlor by, I forget.
Good book that I remember reading in the fourth grade. It's complete except for
covers, and I suppose a spell check since I didn't used to do those before
getting Kurzweil.
Secret Water, Swallows and Amazons #8 by Arthur Ransome.
Edited about half of this 350 page book and the rest is scanned....got to get
back in the mood.

Yeesh *grin* that was a lot of books and I doubt anyone read all of it, but if
I had mentioned a book and you hadn't seen it make its way into the system,
there was your update. If I didn't mention a book I should have, please let me
know.
Hopefully I'll have more to share later in the week.
Now, I'm off to bed as I need to actually get up tomorrow!
