I assure you I moved it until I heard a click and the switch's position was
near me, that is, toward the bottom of the card rather than away from me
toward the top of said card. The switch was not in the middle position.

This is probably better asked on the Stream Users list, but maybe you didn't
move the little switch all the way. Try moving it back to the protected
position and then to the unprotected position with a little more
forcefulness. Don't use too much force though. You wouldn't want to tear
your card apart.
