Hi all,
I'm writing to report a problem I've found and also to find out if it is
documented anywhere and if I should have known about it.

I'm finding that the Victor readers are skipping the rest of a paragraph
after any words in italics. Below are the steps I used to come to this
conclusion. If anyone else has time to test, I would appreciate it!

I downloaded my last validation, Deep Blue, by David Wilson, and was
skimming to see if things came out all right. I put both the .BRF and Daisy
files on my BrailleNote. The .BRF was fine. However when I opened the
Daisy I started noticing missing passages. I then opened the .XML and .HTML
on the computer and all the text was there. I was thinking that the
BrailleNote uses a version of Victor Soft so I ran Victor Soft on my
computer and the same passages were missing. I then transferred the Daisy
to Victor Stream with the same results. I examined the .XML more closely
and am finding that anywhere words are italicized, i.e., using the
"class=italic" attribute, the rest of the paragraph is skipped by the Victor
readers. I then loaded the Daisy file onto my BookCurier and it read fine.
So, it definitely seems to be a problem with Victor readers and the italic
attribute. I haven't had time to test other attributes such as bolding.

I then looked in the Volunteer manual to see if this was mentioned and I
just hadn't remembered, and it isn't.

I'm going to report this to Bookshare and to Humanware.

I would very much appreciate any thoughts or knowledge anyone has regarding
this issue. I turn on all punctuation when I validate, but I really haven't
been paying attention to attributes unless it affects the text of the .RTF
file and so far it hasn't. This is really frightening to me because I don't
know how many other books I've validated have been affected.

Thanks in advance for any input or help!
