Unfortunately, I cannot help you much with OpenBook because I edit with a
Braille display and with K1000. When I did have OpenBook, my goal was to
scan and get out as quickly as possible because the program crashed on me
quite a lot, especially the voice. So I never did any editing with it at
all. Even so, I do not think you should have to worry much about losing
important codes if you choose to edit in the .rtf format using OpenBook.

  Dear Evan,

Please excuse what may sound like dumb questions.

I noticed that you mentioned not using Word much to edit. Do you edit
with Kurtzweil? We use Openbook, not Kurtzweil. Do you know if it is
possible to edit .rft files in OpenBook? If so, do I simply open the .rft
file while in Openbook? Do I retain the important codes if I do that?

As I have mentioned on this list before, I am far more comfortable editing
with Open Book rather than Word, so thus far as validators, both Mike and I
have been editing .ark files. We hope that when we switch to editing .rft
files that we can use Open Book as the editor, so any comments from you or
other list members about how to do this successfully would be much
appreciated.

  Thanks.

I think that autoformatting stuff is in the Options menu under the Tools
menu. But I could be wrong. I don't use Word much these days, so my
knowledge of it is getting hazier and hazier.

Hi Amber. My best guess is that MS Word is doing that incredibly
aggravating thing of autoformatting based on the pattern you have
established. So if you did some paragraphs which you started with a tab,
then it will just start automatically tabbing when you press enter twice to
start a new paragraph. You can probably turn this off, but I don't know
how. However, if you press tab and hear that you're one inch from the edge,
then just backspace once and remove what is essentially the second tab-the
first one was automatically put in for you and the second one you put in
yourself.

I am working on a paper for grad school. for some reason, in this
particular paper, in certain paragraphs, when I hit the tab key to start the
paragraph, it indents an inch, instead of the .5 inches it normally does. I
am using word XP. I also have it on normal view.

Any thoughts on how to get all of my paragraphs to indent one uniform
.5 inches?
